About Habitat Blue Boy:
This piece was inspired by a
commercial for Pacific
Lumber. The commercial
suggested that we needn’t
worry about the future of the
endangered white headed
woodpecker. Pacific Lumber
is on the job and very
concerned. They will make
certain that the white headed
woodpecker is protected
because they love nature.
For me I do not know what is
more frightening, a lumber
company suggesting that we
leave the protection of
endangered birds to them, or
that such an absurd,
expensive, well produced
commercial can be aired
without challenge. It is like a
sex offender airing a
commercial saying don’t
worry, I will take care of the
children.
This photograph of a "Balinese
Logging Truck" is taken outside the
gates of Bali's only National Park. It
almost defies physics to carry a third
of a chord of wood on a bicycle. This
image has stayed with me from my
travels in Indonesia and found it's
way into the pieces Coho Lodge and
Habitat Blue Boy.
